MAC Cosmetics Newmat

Last year I went to Halifax to help install a Newmat Stretch Ceiling. I was called by my distributor who got the contract to install a ceiling in every new store. This one being in the Halifax Shopping Center. This certain ceiling was "back lite" was means the ceiling membrane was translucent so as to let light through. Very nice look when finished. If ever in Halifax make sure you stop in and look or any other Mac Cosmetics store that is in your area.

Newmat Speciality Ceiling 4

This is the final product. It has now cooled and contracted and pulled itself tight in the track. Everyone that I showed this ceiling to had no idea it wasn't drywall. The finish on this ceiling is mat white but it comes in a variety of colors and finishes. Check out www.newmatusa.com for the details.

Newmat Speciality Ceiling 3

All that is left to do now is finish hooking the ceiling into the track.

Newmat Speciality Ceiling 2

This is the second part of installing the ceiling membrane. I heat it up by blowing very hot air onto it. I use a propane blower heater. This allows the membrane to " stretch" into the track on the wall.

"The Mold"

Some have asked me where I got the piece of concrete for my coffee table etc. I make then by first making the mold. This the mold I made for Titan Sales And Marketing.

Newmat Speciality Ceiling 1

This is the track that is use to hold up the "ceiling membrane" It goes around the outer wall of the room the ceiling is going in. Take notice of the plumbing pipe that is lower then the floor joist. The ceiling hides those completely but I can get at those quite easy at any time.

Newmat Stretch Ceilings

This is a another side of my business. A business partner and I have the Quebec and Atlantic Provinces as territory for Newmat Stretch Ceilings. This is a product that is new here in the Atlantic Region but has been around for quite a few years in other parts of North America. Click here to find out more about this product. www.newmatusa.com I'll be posting some photos of some work I've done with this product plus I'll be showing step by step photos of this product being install in my office.

Close up picture of the coffee table

This is closeup of the coffee table a few posts back. It shows a view of the "veined" look I mentioned. This was unintentional, which is the beauty of concrete, sometimes you don't know what a piece will look like until you break it out of it's mold. It would be easy to repeat this "mistake" because I keep a record of the type of materials and amount of each that was used.

Design and build part two

This is a picture of the finished cabinet I described in my earlier post. With the exception of a few small details, it is what the client saw and agreed upon.

Design and build

This is the 3d picture of a cabinet I designed for a client. After meeting with them and discussing what they wanted and where they wanted to have the piece placed, I designed and created this view. After meeting with the client again and showing them them this 3d view, they saw exactly what they wanted and gave me the go ahead to build.

More concrete

This is the first piece of concrete slab that I put to use in our home. At first it was just a practice piece but after I took it out the mold and saw the unique "veined" look that it had, I decided to use it as a coffee table. I then designed the base to fit the top.
